Recalling its resolution 65/182 of 21 December 2010, in which it established an open-ended working group , open to all States Members of the United Nations , for the purpose of strengthening the protection of the human rights of older persons by considering the existing international framework of the human rights of older persons and identifying possible gaps and how best to address them , including by considering, as appropriate, the feasibility of further instruments and measures, as well as all its subsequent resolutions on the follow-up to the Second World Assembly on Ageing , including resolution 78/177 of 19 December 2023. 2nd Meeting, Organizational Meeting of Intergovernmental Working Group on older persons.

 The Intergovernmental Working Group on older persons is an open-ended intergovernmental body. Its primary mandate is to elaborate a comprehensive, internationally legally binding instrument on the human rights of older persons, with the objective of promoting, protecting, and ensuring the full enjoyment of human rights by older persons. This is the first meeting of the working group. The main objective of the organisational meeting will be to determine and articulate the methods of work of the working group and to define the main elements of a programme of work for its first session.
